The words that trip up text-to-speech

A voice that reads aloud has to decide what you meant, word by word, with no second take. It will read this sentence to you; you have already read it yourself. A rebel may rebel. A subject may subject the whole line to the wrong stress. The reader must present the present, record a record, and know that a minute change can take a minute to explain.

Nothing in the spelling tells you which is which. Only the sentence does — and this one works it out on your own machine, without sending the page anywhere to find out.
